Welcome back to AI Edge.

Today: Google opens Project Genie and you can create 3D worlds with AI in real time, SpaceX acquires xAI in the largest M&A deal in history, OpenAI launches Codex as a standalone app, and AI agents now have their own social network. Let's get into it.

The Essentials

1. SpaceX acquires xAI for $1.25 trillion. Elon Musk has merged his space company with his biggest AI bet. SpaceX valued at $1 trillion, xAI at $250 billion. The plan: scale AI compute by launching data centers into orbit. Yes, you read that right. It's the largest M&A deal in history. Musk putting all his chips on one table.

2. OpenAI launched the Codex app, its "command center" for AI coding. Standalone macOS app. You can manage multiple agents in parallel, schedule automations, and customize each agent's personality. Over one million developers used it last month. And right now it's free for all ChatGPT users. Try it here.

3. AI agents now have their own social network. It's called Moltbook. A Reddit where only AI agents post. In days: 1.4 million registered agents and over 1 million human visitors. The agents created their own religion (Crustafarianism), mocked their users, and discussed how to set up private channels away from humans. Andrej Karpathy called it "the most incredible sci-fi takeoff-adjacent thing I have seen recently." That said, a researcher found the entire database was misconfigured and agents' API keys were exposed. Security from another era.

The Headline
🌍 Google opens its AI world generator to the public

Google DeepMind has launched Project Genie. A web app that lets you create and explore AI-generated worlds in real time.

It's been five months since they previewed Genie 3, the model powering it. Now anyone can try it. Well, anyone willing to pay.

How does it work?

You type a setting and a character. The AI generates a preview using Nano Banana Pro and Gemini. Then you step into an explorable 3D world in first or third person.

Your character can walk, fly, or drive. The model remembers what it's built, so if you return to an area, it's still there. Visual consistency in real time.

The fine print.

Sessions are capped at 60 seconds due to compute costs. Each user gets a dedicated chip during their session. And for now, it's only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers — the $250/month plan.

$250 for a minute of virtual world. What a bargain.

Why it matters.

The applications of world simulators like Genie 3 are massive: robotics training, gaming, architecture, environment design. The tech is finally at a level where users can actually experience the vision, not just read about it.

And Google isn't alone. World Labs, Runway, Yann LeCun's AMI… they're all pushing in the same direction. Simulating reality is getting closer to reality. The race is on, and with Google putting product on the street, the pressure on everyone else just multiplied. Try it here.

Turn novelty into your competitive advantage: Use Claude Cowork for video clipping, editing

In this guide, you will learn how to use Claude Cowork to replace your expensive video clipping tools, allowing you to "generate your first clips in under 5 minutes" by analyzing transcripts and processing video files locally.

Step-by-step:

  1. Create a new folder and add your video file, the video transcript with timestamps, and the prompt files linked here

  2. Open the Claude desktop app, select the "Cowork" tab, and click the folder icon to select and "Work in" your new folder

  3. Prompt: "Read main SOP and scaffold our directory... Then find me 10 scroll-stopping clip ideas to review," which will generate a file with potential clip ideas

  4. Review and tell Claude which ones to process (e.g., "Generate clip 1 and 6"), using follow-ups like "Crop clip 1 into a vertical video" to refine the output

Pro tip: You can also generate a transcript as an .srt file by installing openai-whisper (pip install -U openai-whisper) and prompting Claude Code.
